And the winner is...

The Detroit Red Wings have reeled in the biggest name on the Free Agent market this off-season: forward Marian Hossa. The reports out of TSN Canada say Detroit has signed Hossa to a one-year, $7.4-million contract.

After being courted by the Edmonton Oilers and former team Pittsburgh, Hossa has decided to sign with the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings.

The deal gives Detroit even more firepower than they had during the run to the Cup. The contract that being reported isn't as lucrative as may have been expected. Perhaps Hossa is looking for a second consecutive Stanley Cup rather than an increased salary.

This leaves Mats Sundin and Jaromir Jagr as the premiere offensive pieces remaining on the market. The signing of Hossa will undoubtedly push the Rangers to pursue Sundin or Jagr more heavily. Vancouver has already made an offer for Sundin - reported at 2 years, $20 million. The Rangers can't match this offer, but perhaps Jagr will re-sign for less.

The clock is ticking, Glen Sather. Make a move soon.
